The 2025 Hagströmer Fellowship is awarded to Lukas J. Meier. Dr Meier is a fellow of the Edmond & Lily Safra Center for Ethics at Harvard University, where he is conducting ethical analyses of the latest technology for stimulating the brain - so-called brain computer interfaces. Dr Meier studied philosophy at the University of Oxford and political science at the University of Göttingen and holds a PhD from the University of St Andrews. Subsequently, he was a Junior Research Fellow at the University of Cambridge. His research interests include neurophilosophy, artificial intelligence, ̽»¨¾«Ñ¡ ethics, philosophy of mind, and the history of these disciplines.

As our 2025 Hagströmer Fellow, Dr Meier will research the history of psychosurgery in Sweden - a project which proceeds from his investigations of brain washing during the Cold-War era and intelligence services' secret programmes in behavioural modification.
