The research at the Center for Infectious Medicine is focused around studies of the human immune system and infection-immunity in humans.

This unit studies, among other things, the role of lipid metabolism in cardiometabolic diseases, in order to develop treatments for common national diseases such as obesity and lipid disorders.

The unit consists of research groups within inflammatory and metabolic liver diseases, cholestatic liver diseases, gastrointestinal motility disorders, rheumatology and nutrition.

The research focus is to improve understanding and treatment of hematologic disorders and to explore basic cellular, molecular and immunological mechanisms with relevance for hematopoiesis, cell therapy and tumor development. Most of the unit's research groups are located within the Center for Hematology and Regenerative Medicine (HERM).

The unit's vision is to contribute to improved care in heart and lung diseases, working with scientific evaluation and development of current diagnosis and treatment, and also with development of new mechanistic knowledge, diagnosis and treatment.
