About me

  • I am a registered physiotherapist since 2008 and an Associate professor at the Division of Physiotherapy, 探花精选. I obtained my bachelor degree in Physiotherapy at 探花精选 (2008), Master in Medical Science at KI (2012) and PhD in Medical Sciences at 探花精选 (2016)

  • Balance control in older adults with Parkinson鈥檚 disease: effects of medication and exercise.

Following the completion of my doctoral studies, I pursued postdoctoral training under the supervision of Associate Professor Caroline Paquette at the Human Brain Control of Locomotion Lab at McGill University, Montreal, Canada.

My clinical and research interests are in neurological rehabilitation including experimental and interventional studies in the field of gait, balance and physical activity. I have a clinical position as a physiotherapist at the Karolinska University Hospital and I am part of the operational team for the uMOVE core facility at 探花精选.

Research

  • With a specialized focus on health promotion and targeted secondary prevention strategies for individuals living with neurological diseases or injuries such as stroke, transient ischemic attack (TIA), Parkinson鈥檚 disease, and spinal cord injury, my research interest is centered on tailored physical exercise interventions and fostering support for sustained physical activity.

My primary research area is dedicated to developing person-centered mobile health interventions tailored for post-stroke or transient ischemic attack physical activity. The objectives of this research program are to:

    • Enhance the precision of wearable sensors for accurately assessing physical activity levels in people post-stroke.
    • Understanding post-stroke or TIA physical activity behavior involves identifying activity profiles and determining barriers and facilitators.
    • Develop and evaluate mobile health solutions to enhance accessibility to physical exercise and support for sustained physical activity for people post-stroke or TIA.

  • Additionally, I am invested in global health research, particularly in exploring the diverse conditions and outcomes of rehabilitation across various contextual settings. This involves collaboration with Associate Professor Conran Joseph at Stellenbosch University and Professor Anthea Rhoda at the University of Western Cape in Cape Town, South Africa. Together, on the project titled 鈥淗ealth Systems for Stroke and Spinal Cord Injury in Sweden and South Africa 鈥 A Public Health Perspective on Research and Education.鈥 This initiative aims to describe and compare healthcare processes and long-term outcomes concerning stroke and spinal cord injury care in both South Africa and Sweden, thereby contributing to improved healthcare services.

Teaching

  • I have a strong interest in education and actively engage in teaching and supervising students across bachelor, master, and PhD levels. My teaching specialization focuses on digital physiotherapy, methods for assessing physical activity, and interventions for promoting physical activity among clinical populations with neurological diseases or injuries.

I am the course leader for the advanced level course "Remote Physiotherapy - A Physiotherapeutic Perspective" (7.5 hp) seeking to equip physiotherapists with the skills necessary for evaluating and treating patients remotely using digital tools. Additionally, I have experience in teaching clinical and objective measurement tools for assessing the quality and performance of human movements. My experience includes coordinating and developing courses, delivering lectures, conducting practical seminars, and serving as an examiner and moderator.

In the context of global health, I am dedicated to internationalizing education to enhance its quality and inclusivity. Through our collaboration with Stellenbosch University and the University of Western Cape in Cape Town, we are working towards defining universal learning outcomes and designing teaching and learning activities that foster cultural sensitivity and address global health challenges.
