Hi, I am Clara Ibel Chamorro- a scientist, mentor, collaborator, reseracher, grant writer, project manager, laboratory manager and all around enthusiast for translational science, cell biology and renenerative medicine. At my core,   I am a biologist with passion for understanding how cells communicate and how we can collect this knowledge to develop new therapeutic strategies.

I earn my PhD degree in 2010 from the Department of Medicine at Karolikska Institutet, where we  focused on  the antimicrobial peptide LL-37 in epithelial biology, from promoting wound healing to modulating immune responses- Beyond just peptide-  This work gave me a deep appreciation for cellular signaling and communication, teaching me how molecular players shape tissue healing and homeostasis.

Currently, I am a researcher in the Tissue Enginering group at the Department of Women's and Children's Health, where I  work closely within the team and contribute to shape specific aspects of our research, particularly in the development of advance tissue models for understanding wound healing in the genitourinary organs. 

I am into translational research-The idea of bridging the gap between bench research and real-world appications, where science have the potential to make a clinical impact. Building on that, I am interesed in understanding how tissue healing occur across different tissues. I am particurlarly focussed  on developing methodologies and in vitro 3d strategies to study cellular behaviour, drug responses and regenerative medicine approaches without relying on animal models.

Mentorship is on of the most rewarding aspects of being in research. Over the years, I have the privilege of suppervising students at various academic levels, from undergraduated, to master's and PhD candidates. I take hands-on approach, guiding students through experimental desing, but giving then the freedom to come with own ideas. I encorage students to develop critical thinking, scientific independence, trying to be supportive.
 I enyoy helping students designing and refining experiments, throubleshoot and navigate challenges of laboratory research. I also encorage the development of scientific communication,  data analysis and engage in academic discussions.
